MetalBeams
Description
Metalbeams is a platform aimed at increasing the metal industry's ability to effectively utilize ESS, MAX IV, Petra III and other large-scale facilities by stimulating collaboration between industry, institutes and academia. The SIP Metallic Materials Program Office hosts Metalbeams network. Every year, a Metalbeams seminar is organized in conjunction with the program conference in March and an autumn seminar. The program brings together companies and research providers around industrial utility linked to the large-scale facilities.
Offer / Action
MetalBeams facilitates access to synchrotron X-ray and neutron sources—including MAX IV, ESS, Petra III, and other large-scale facilities—for companies working with steel, aluminum, casting, hard metals, and non-ferrous metals.
What we offer:
- Industry-academia matchmaking: Connect with the right expertise and capabilities for your materials challenges
- Competence building: Biannual seminars and workshops on synchrotron and neutron techniques relevant to the metal industry
- Technical guidance: Support in understanding how diffraction, spectroscopy, tomography, and time-resolved measurements can solve industrial problems
- Network access: Join a growing community of companies, research institutes, and academic experts in metallic materials
Who should contact MetalBeams: Companies developing new metal alloys, improving manufacturing processes, or investigating material properties under extreme conditions (temperature, load, environment) that require advanced characterization beyond traditional laboratory methods.
MetalBeams is hosted by the Strategic Innovation Programme Metallic Materials (SIP) and operated by Jernkontoret, Swerim, and RISE.
